Preaching the Gospel to Yourself – Malaki Style

The other day, the kids and I were reading books in Jairus’ room and Malaki found a tiny  blue bible.  I heard him murmuring to himself and leaned in a little closer. This is what I heard:

Jesus, I love you and I praise you.
I can know your name.
I holler at you to take my sins away.

Tears came to my eyes as I listened to this little boy preaching the Gospel to himself. In his language, no less (“I holler at you…”). It was a special moment.

Living and speaking the Gospel of Jesus to my kids is hard, and really frustrating at times. And I am by no means saying I do it perfectly.  But moments like this one help me remember that taking advantage of those little teachable moments is working.

It is in his heart, and it’s what he hears when he opens a bible.

It’s worth it.
